Heal after Trauma
Connect with Your True Nature
Find Personal Freedom
Your experiences may have shaped you but they do not define you.
You are not the wounds of your past, nor are you your successes, you are not your possessions, nor are you what you do for a living, you are not your relationships, nor are you the labels society gives you, you are not your thoughts, nor are you what others think of you, you are not your past, nor are you your future, …So who and what then, are you?
To uncover your true nature, heal and live your best life, I believe you need attend to three key elements:
· healing from the impact that negative past experiences had on your sense of self. This includes any traumas of the past (little, big or seemingly insignificant), their impact on your nervous system and entire body, their accompanying emotions and the limiting beliefs that arose from them. These are to be acknowledged, investigated with curiosity, with gentleness, with kindness, and resolved.
· giving your body and nervous system the gift of your understanding, of how and why it responds the way it does in situations it perceives as ‘unsafe’. Big and little ‘t’ trauma affects the nervous system until resolved and repressed emotions live in the body causing dis-ease, so the body needs to be included in the healing work using a somatic approach to release the charge in the nervous system from the past traumas (no matter how small) and the accompanying pent-up emotions, in fact, it is key.
· developing the present moment awareness (mindfulness) practices to support you in your healing and in your everyday life. When you encounter tricky, triggering situations in your relationships and in your day to day experience, having mindfulness skills enables you, through awareness, to free yourself from old behavioural patterns of reactivity and allows you to choose new, healthy, present-moment-appropriate responses.
All three applied together support you to breakthrough into a new way of being where you live free from the echoes of the past, are able to live more fully and openly in the present moment, with new patterns of thought and behaviour and ultimately with a fresh experience of life.
I specialise in working with women with co-dependency issues who struggle around:
creating and maintaining healthy boundaries
being a 'people pleaser'
being able to stand up for themselves
being able to put themselves and their own needs before the needs of others
taking responsibility for others rather than for themselves
feeling guilty when putting themselves, their needs and wants first
expressing their emotions, opinions, needs and desires
a fear of rejection
feeling stuck, helpless or hopeless
self-confidence
a fear of being seen
the treadmill of constantly striving and proving themselves worthy
perfectionism
workaholism
self-criticism and judgement
needing to always be a high achiever and all that entails
fear of confrontation, of other people’s anger and of expressing their anger
finding themselves in a cycle of toxic relationships, romantic and otherwise
getting their life back on track after narcissistic abuse (see below)
If you can identify with one or more of the above, then the work I do could help you.
As the above is not exhaustive list of codependency traits, please feel free to get in touch here to let me know more about your situation and issues you’re facing and to find out how the work I do can support you.
To find out more, contact me to book a Free Consultation. In this session we’ll discuss your needs, get a feel for how it would be to work together and you’ll get a sense of whether this approach is right for you.
Sessions of my Trauma-Informed Mindfulness & Somatic Healing Approach may involve any or a combination of the following modalities:
mindfulness-based enquiry
somatic enquiry
transformational coaching
brainspotting
emotional freedom techniques (tapping)
focusing
breath work (pranayama)
mindfulness practices
loving-kindness techniques
self-compassion techniques
This combination of elements and modalities, applied patiently, with guidance, support and self-compassion, can help you to break free from the triggers that seemingly out of nowhere can cause you to feel fearful, overpowered and stuck. The strong, overwhelming emotions that that suddenly arise in those moments can be understood and released allowing you the space, calm and freedom to communicate from your conscious adult self rather than from your wounded child part, offering the possibility of improving your relationships enormously. When you are free from the guilt, shame, blame and other uncomfortable emotions you may needlessly be carrying, along with the fears and limiting beliefs that hold you back, you’ll be able to experience a deeper connection with your true nature and all of the gifts that it brings.
I believe the journey of self-discovery that unfolds in applying these elements is what allows you to heal and transform all that is not you, thereby opening the door for your authentic self to emerge. The shifts that happen in this process allow you to feel more comfortable with who you are, both when you’re alone and around others, to express yourself more fully, to connect more intimately with yourself, friends and loved ones and to show up more boldly, joyfully and confidently, claiming for yourself a life you truly love and deserve.
